چکیده

These tilcers are very rare in the situation above mentioned, and hence I deem this case worthy of record. Besides rarity, the total absence of any previous history of urgent symptoms and the fatal termination of the case within 41 hours after admission, render it peculiarly interesting and instructive. Dr. Rutherford Sanders, Professor of Pathology in the Edinburgh University, describing the perforating, terraced, or funnel-shaped ulcer in the lectures I attended, thus expressed himself:? " This ulcer exists only in the stomach. Only in one instance have I seen it at the adjoining part of the duodenum." Taiga Singh, Havildar, 18th Regiment Native Infantry, aged 48 years, with service of 30 years, wa3 admitted into hospital in Camp Chungrabunder, on the 16th November at about 8. a.m. He said he vomited twice during the night and complained of pain over the abdomen. The pain was not severe and not localized. About au hour after admission he complainei of retching. Thirty-minima of spirits of chloroform were administered, and the retching completely ceased. Had hot fomentations to the abdomen din ing the day ; when I saw him on my evening visit he made no particular complaint. He asked me for the use of the dhooly, but as I did not think lie required it, I ordered him to make the next march in his bullock cart. When I visited the sick in the next Camp, patient had slight fever. On enquiry he said that his bowels had not been moved for three days. He was ordered a dose of castor oil immediately. This was about 12 noon. At 6 p.m. my Senior Hospital Assistant told me that the castor oil had no effect, and that the patient was complaining of flatulence. I ordered him half a drachm of tincture of assafoetida internally ; and a castor oil and turpentine enema. In about two hours I heard that the enema brought away some hard foeces, which were not shewn to me. I repented the enema; this had no effect. At 9 p.m. he had
